I woke up yesterday to immense body pain, painful coughing, headache, sneezing, and 40 * C fever. I quickly went to the ER to know if it was the Swine Flu.
The ER was that of the Hospitals of University of North Carolina. (World famous).
They said there is NO FLU TEST FOR THE SWINE FLU, initially.
Then they put me through
1) X ray
2) Blood Test: they took the blood but never tested it.
And they told me I had fever (which was what I told them initially).
Toward the end, when I kept insisting that it might be the H1N1 influenza, they–the nurses–told me they were told NOT TO TEST FOR THE SWINE FLU by the Center for Disease Control. What an idiotic move. And ironically Obama declared H1N1 a national emergency.
Now it cost me $200 just for the ER fee and many future fees just to be told that I HAD FEVER.
You clowns boast about American superiority, but the funny things is, you are the butt of every lame, poorly conceived attack in the world: 9/11 and Pearl Harbor.

It has good points, but it kind of does suck. My whole family works in the healthcare industry both on the provider side and the regulatory side and even we are confused about what is going on half of the time.
What you proved is that government intervention in health care has stopped the hospital from giving you a desired service. I agree that the government has far too much control and influence in the medical field.
But if I were you I would not have wanted to be tested for Swine Flu. I have an immune system whose job it is to fight disease and I would let it do its job.
You had more done than my friend in Canada. Had back pains, went to doctor and he looked at her, then did NOTHING!!! No test, no nothing!!!!!! She still has back pains now four months later and her doctor in the great Canada’s system still does nothing. She now coming down to visit me to see a doctor who will order tests so she might actually find out what’s going on.
your question was about health care, and it was a pretty good one but I finally realized that you just wanted to take a quick shot at america by your last statement.

Hey doofus! Why go to the ER. Why not go to one of the doc in the box walk in clinics? Determining if it is H!N! is a waste of money. the treatment would be the same. Don’t like it. Leave!

So you went to an ER and they examined you to see if you had a serious infection and determined you didn’t. Now you are whining that they didn’t do what? There is no cure for respiratory viruses and it was too late for inoculation if you had it.
So, stop being a typical spoiled and sheltered little child in an adult’s body expecting everyone to be your mommy or daddy. Grow up and be an unusual modern American brat. Stand on your own feet and not expect everyone else to take care of you.

I broke my big toe about 4 months ago. It took 24 hours to get to my general doctor to order an x-ray, another 48 hours to get the x-ray results back.
By that time, the orthopedist who they referred me to (since the general practitioner doesn’t deal with this any longer), was off for the rest of the week (he only works Mon-Wed) and I couldn’t schedule an appointment to see him until the following Tuesday, 8 days after the accident.
The orthopedist took more x-rays because the general practitioner didn’t forward the original x-ray results, and I was finally fitted with a “bootie” 9 days after the accident.
All at a cost of about $300 to me.
If I had known how much of a pain in the @ss it was going to be and cost up front, I would have just let it be and suffered with it.

Told not to test by the CENTER FOR DISEASE CONTROL. That’s a government program and it was required by the White House (Health and Human Services) that they stopped counting the instances of the swine flu.
As for the
1) XRAY
2) Blood Test
The Blood Test is what you’d expect to determine if you have the flu — and I’ll bet my savings account the hospital ran a check for Swine. Here in San Diego, they’re checking people at the door — any sign of the Swine and you’re isolated from the rest of the hospital.
The XRAY — thank the ambulence chasers…w/o tort reform, hospitals run excessive tests to cover their a$s…
Now you know in part why the cost to you is so high.
As for 9/11 and Pearl Harbor — you have no apparent understanding of the History of this Country. Be thankful (wherever you may be) that you’re not speaking Japanese or German and worshiping Allah BY FORCE!

Since there is no “cure” for a broken toe, what’s the big hurry finding out if you broke it other than to run up the costs to yourself and the hospital?
I broke my collar bone — waited in the ER for about 15 minutes, had an xray and the results in 10 minutes, and had a sling on shortly after. In and out w/ a prescription for pain pills and a clear understanding of what to expect for the next 2 months.
