situation? paramedics joke sometimes to lighten the mood for themselves, and sometimes others, but have you evr had one that was too sarcastic? or have one say something innappropriate?

As a paramedic, I usually tend to gauge my humor based on the particular situation or the patient. If it’s something particularly serious, such as a cardiac arrest, I will keep my sarcastic comments to myself. But, if it’s appropriate, I will use humor to lighten the mood. It’s just a matter of judging the situation, and responding appropriately.
However, what I say after the call (when the patient is out of earshot) is between me and my partner! “Gallows humor” is usually the norm, as it’s impossible to deal with what we have to see on a daily basis, without either developing an odd sense of humor, or going insane….
We’re not really mean, and we don’t make nasty comments or anything, but humor really does help to relieve stress.
Funniest thing I’ve ever told a patient, “I’m not a paramedic, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night!”
Only the one paramedic I know on here.

LOL yeah I have pulled the “I am not a Paramedic, but I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night too!” It really lightened the mood, and actually made the patient feel more at ease.
Never had one who did, and never did when I was an EMT. The sick humor is between calls.

That’s too funny, I pulled the “I am not a Paramedic, but I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night” as well. My patient wasn’t amuzed, however. LOL.
Yes i had experienced that when got my head lacerated caused i was knocked down heavily when i was walking to the mall that caused my head bleed severely and while i was inside the ambulance i heard someone says i should stay at home and could have been no problem.Nobody wanted an accident, is not it?
