i dont even watch todays cartoon…so when i can..i try to catch tom and jerry during the day. classic stuff.
it didnt teach u anything…but i always laugh…

You are right. I passed a couple of elementary school tests due to memorizing schoolhouse rock and Sesame Street jingles. I was watching Looney Toons cartoons as a kid and didn’t understand all the references. As an adult watching them with my kids I realized there was a combination of adult and kids humor that gave these shows what I call whole family appeal. The humor was based on references to real life events and culture. I remember Elmer Fudd chasing Bugs and the whole scene acted out in the form of broadway plays “The Marriage of Figaro and The Barber of Seville.” Not having seen these plays at the time the humor escaped me, but having seen them later on in high school it came together;. Obviously there has been many changes to what kids laugh at now and that will continue to happen but you are right: Slapstick has replaced intelligent humor. Question on target!

i don’t think the cartoons are making kids dumber, i just think that they arent teaching much of anything except for violence and bad language. i miss the old cartoons because they did teach kids alot back then. there are a few that teach other languages, but i think the producers of the cartoons need to think about the main idea for the cartoons.

yes i also think that some of these cartoons are making our kids more violent with the killing that goes on and so forth i wish they would show more loney tunes and stuff like that yes some of them may have some violent content but if you notice that none of the charcters seem to really get hurt and the stuff that they do is really funny

Times changes, and hence, so does the entertainment people watch.
I loved watching T and J while growing up. My son wants nothing to do with it. Thomas the train is his gig.
Get hip with the times, else you believe everything is dumb.

The older cartoons, like Tom & Jerry, actually had great storylines and won awards. Without even using words, the episodes could tell stories… unlike today where everything has to be either Anime, or all flash and no substance.
Old cartoons had great music using REAL orchestras… something that’s lost today.
