So i’m mexican and i have an interesting sense of humor.
whenever i’m around my friend we would always joke about alot of things. She’s mexican too. So anyways, i would throw in a joke about being mexican like, “oh beans is our number one food group” or “watch out the police will take us back to mexico”
then one day i said a mexican joke and she told me that its very rude to say stuff like that and people will get offended.
i didn’t think it was offending especially since i was laughing about myself even my family makes joke like that.
what do you guys think? is it offending to make jokes about your own race or no?

I’ve always felt that if you can’t laugh at yourself, you aren’t much of a person. Shows a real lack of self-esteem and self-awareness.
General weak character, in my opinion.
I’m 1/2 Italian, 1/4 American Indian, and 1/4 French. Yeah, no drinking problems in my family, right? (See how easy it is?)

yes it is because although you might not mind i’m sure some mexicans will.
but, you are guaranteed freedom of speech so you can make jokes about anyone.
Maybe she just needs to lighten up and stop being so uptight. I mean if you fall are you going to have a hissy fit or laugh it off? I hear racist black jokes all the time, but some times you just need to be able to laugh at yourself.
I never make jokes about my own race, but then again i am a member of The Chosen Race so why would i want to?
It’s usually the “viva la raza” people who take it all f***!ng personally.
