Please tell me this is a joke, please tell me that humans really aren’t this stupid….?

This Question From Quick Jokes | 24 Answers

I found this while searching through some crazy ultra consevative Christian website (I posted that website as well at the bottom of page if you want a quick laugh, which will soon turn into horror as you realise how full on these freaks can be).

Anyway in their links column they have a link to the – (wait for it)

Flat Earth Society

for people who really believe the world is flat and that it is just a great big consiparcy that people say it is round. There is also a Fixed Earth Society (http://fixedearth.com) for people who think the universe revolves around us still.

Is this just some great big joke kinda like the Flying Spagetti Monster (no disrespect intended pastafarians) which everybody gets but me, or are they actually serious. The websites and forums do seem kinda genuine. Have others heard about them and I’m just a little behind the 8 ball?

Should I be scared….?

Sorry, but I think some of them are indeed serious about it.

Several years ago I encountered one on the Internet. They were either serious or one hell of a good troll.

  2. Medical Jokes: slave of 12 Gods

just when you thought you’ve seen it all!

  3. Medical Jokes: No One

They are serious. I actually read all their reasons, they just don’t understand the implications of the physics. Totally off target.

  4. Medical Jokes: moonshaman19

Wow that is sad. I never get tired of human stupidity. Not much surprises me at this point, but that is a new low. A flat earth? come on people…quit inbreeding its bad for biodiversity.

  5. Medical Jokes: Jade

I guess they never saw a satellite view of the earth (and other planets). How odd.

edit: wow. please don’t judge us all by their stupidity!

Anyone can post anything on the net and make it look official and call it truth , truth according to them does not make it so =)

    Well…
The last link kind of scared me, but they had an episode of Penn and Teller Bullshit! which is one of my favorites, so kudos to that.
Until I read that they called them blasphemous atheists…

Ahh, well, I just tend to ignore the crazies like them.

    Of course it’s true.

Should you be scared? Well, I’m not so concerned about that as I am about the anti-abortion wackos or the anti-female wackos or the anti-poor wackos.

Those people are toxic and wicked and are really as close as one can get to being good for killing. One resists such thinking, but when a person is just a pustule on the backside of the human race, one wonders why they are given the privilege of existing. The reason, I think, is that no one is ever truly beyond redemption, and we live in hope that these wicked people will somehow actually see the error of their wicked ways…

  15. Medical Jokes: Consta

Amazing. Imagine trying to reason with people like these.

um … i don’t know why you’d be shocked. Fundy Christians believe in talking snakes and donkeys, that the moon and sun can be halted in the sky, that walking staffs can turn into snakes and a woman can be turned into a salt lick. and against their own best interests they vote Republican even after they’ve been taken for fools over and over and over.

it is a little scary. not only do these people vote but they drive on our highways and many of them own guns.

  18. Medical Jokes: RoboJeef V 2 Point 5

Links didn’t work for some reason…

But anyways, I’ve seen the flat earth site for sure before – don’t give mankind’s intelligence more credit than necessary, it gets depressing when you start associating with them.

    Read their disclaimer.

  20. Medical Jokes: auntb93

I believe it is a satire. I can’t swear to that, of course, but it certainly looks like it to me.

  21. Medical Jokes: Joe S

And you believe every site on the internet is legit? It’s obviously some hoax, satire, or whatever. This is their disclaimer (lol)…..”The Flat Earth Society is not in any way responsible for the failure of the French to repel the Germans at the Maginot Line during WWII. Nor is the Flat Earth Society responsible for the recent yeti sightings outside the Vatican, or for the unfortunate enslavement of the Nabisco Inc. factory employees by a rogue hamster insurrectionist group. Furthermore, we are not responsible for the loss of one or more of the following, which may possibly occur as the result of exposing one’s self to the dogmatic and dangerously subversive statements made within: life, limb, vision, Francois Mitterand, hearing, taste, smell, touch, thumb, Aunt Mildred, citizenship, spleen, bedrock, cloves, I Love Lucy reruns, toaster, pine derby racer, toy duck, antelope, horseradish, prosthetic ankle, double-cheeseburger, tin foil, limestone, watermelon-scented air freshner, sanity, paprika, German to Pig Latin dictionary, dish towel, pet Chihuahua, pogo stick, Golf Digest subscription, floor tile, upper torso or halibut

  22. Medical Jokes: Dinger

there is even a country somewhere in Europe or Asia (I’m not sure were) with a law that is automatically a death penalty to teach, say or even THINK the earth is not flat. The sad part is this law is based on a part of the koran.

    (Koran 18:86)
Till, when he [the traveller Zul-qarnain] reached the setting-place of the sun, he found it going down into a muddy spring…

The only way for this is if the earth is flat. and the sun goes in a arch over part of it.

I wonder how the part on the other side of muddy spring gets light…

  23. Medical Jokes: KAL

OH, that is a real find.

Yes, I have heard of both of them…and no, I don’t think either is a joke. I can think of any number of groups devoted to people that don’t accept some particular bit of information that most other people accept as facts. …and they aren’t necessarily stupid…though I did think that the Penn and Teller clip showed how stupid some people could be in the absence of a religious cause (totally hilarious clip…also not a “joke” per se…those people were REAL people signing a petition to ban water! While the other elements on the site (especially that hilarious caption below the video) showed how stupid people could be with a religious cause.

Most logical confusion, yes, humans really ARE that stupid…ALL humans!!

…but the truly scary thing is, they aren’t any more aware that what they did was stupid any more than any of us are aware of our own particular brand of stupidity! Should you be scared…?…well, if you just happen to think that everything you believe is true, then your own stupidity will eventually be your downfall. On the other hand, if you can accept that ANYTHING you believe COULD be a result of incomplete information, flawed assumptions, manipulation or deception then you really have nothing to fear from people that choose to put their faith in an ancient belief…should have no impact on your ability to choose between faith in God and faith in self (the basic choice of every human)

The Flat Earth Society is an absolute joke. None of them are sincere; just listen to the numerous Internet memes on it.

The Fixed Earth Society is, however, for real. To give you an idea of his insanity, on one of his posts, he calls Galileo and Kepler evolutionists. This website was also cited in a Texas house legislature report.

Calvinists 4 Conservatism is actually really hard to tell, although I think that it’s actually an elaborate spoof that’s designed to discredit politicians by associating insane ideas with them. He reminds me of Jon Swift in the blog posts, although in the comment threads, he usually just seems to act like a stupid conservative Fundamentalist. His user name is also ‘Ixion’ _ in Greek mythology, this was the first human that committed murder.

However, he adamantly claims that he is not a spoof, and he’s very good at staying in character and being consistent. I honestly can’t tell.
