Well, this is what I do:
All you have to do is make a little smile, even if it isn’t funny! It will make him happy. My teacher does that too, it is ok!!!
(school is over for me, but you get it!)

It’s not about kissing his behind, it’s more about being part of the “team”. Lighten up and show him you own sense of humor…buy him a silly little joke book.

Laugh, chuckle or just smile.
It is easy to do even if it is just being polite.
If you cannot muster a little laugh at the lame joke, then laugh at the teacher (laugh at him not with him). Nobody needs to know.

Well, I hate a crappy joke as much as the next guy but it obviously bothers you. You should try to show that you find the joke funny instead of being a grouch about it. It might make the teacher happy to see that you find one of his ‘jokes’ funny.

So what’s the harm in smiling. Would you rather that he just always acted like a serious grouch? What do you expect him to do? If he takes a minute or two before he gets to business with his lesson plan, it’s just saying that he doesn’t want to come off like he’s a stick in the mud. Give the guy a break!!!!!

well he is just trying to act “Cool” in front of the other kids so they’ll give him respect its polite to tell a lie insted of hurting some ones feelings my teacher laughs at other kids jokes even if they’re not funny just so they wont feel bad you dont have to laugh but its the polite thing to do.

There are different types of humor. Not everyone finds the same kind of humor funny. So just because you don’t find your teacher humorous doesn’t mean that the teacher isn’t funny. It could be that you don’t truly get the teacher’s humor (a possibility at least in theory) or that it’s not the kind of humor that you like. It doesn’t sound like the teacher is being a jerk here. It does sound like you are being way too judgmental and harsh. Lighten up. What’s the big deal. I don’t think you need to laugh but you could smile. A smile could mean a lot of things. Cut the teacher some slack. He’s making an effort. Would you rather him not laugh or crack jokes at all? He’s not paid to be a comedian but he is trying to use humor to lighten the mood.
Someone in a power position uses humor that I think is lame – I used to laugh but not anymore. It helps that the person cannot see my reaction b/c of a false wall.
Just smile – smirk. It can mean anything. Like I can’t believe he just said that – that was cute – clever. You know the truth. Anyone that knows you will know the truth.

He could be trying to lighten his mood (teaching is hard work) and the class’ mood (some students learn better this way). You could just smile and maybe laugh while thinking to yourself in a lighthearted way, “this guy is so corny.”
Be grateful that you have a teacher like that. He should be a refreshing change from boring teachers or mean teachers that like to make class hard on the students.

Just smile. He’s not to know you’re smiling AT him instead of WITH him!
Courtesy makes the world go around and wouldn’t you rather have a teacher who makes an effort to brighten your day than one who was a right sour b******?
I think it’s fine to not smile at racist or prejudiced jokes, but this sounds innocent enough and lightens the mood, so why are you making a big deal out of it and taking a stand over something so trivial?
