What sign is the Obama logo? Is it symbolic? As the land symbolises America and the flag (red stripes) or am I wrong?

To me, it is symbolic – “a new dawn for the USA” or something like that. I would guess that this is the sort of impression the designer wants to create..
Maybe the current state of US and world affairs might have justified a few storm clouds on the horizon!
