Why Is Canada’s Health Care System Such A Joke? Please Help?

This Question From Healthcare Jokes | 1 Answer

QUESTION:

I have social anxiety/depression and currently taking Effexor 225mg daily but it has stop working for me and my anxiety and depression have gotten worse. The therapist I saw before doesn’t want to see me anymore of course and referred me to see another therapist, but there is a long waiting list. I have been waiting for about 4 months now and fighting to have someone help me. Last week I went to the emergency cause I couldn’t bare it anymore and they told me they couldn’t do anything and I have to wait my turn because there is such a huge waiting list in the area but will fax them to try to have them rush me faster. I called them again today, to see if they got the fax from emergency and the therapist is on vacation till Nov 10!! Can you believe this ****?!?!? What am I suppose to do? No one wants to help me with my anxiety and I need help. Any advice?

Sadly, I can believe it. I live in Canada also and I agree, out health care system is a joke. I had to wait 8 months before I got an appointment for an initial appointment with a psychiatrist. Even my family doctor told me that waiting 8 months was unacceptable. But if you really want help, and if you can’t wait until November 10th. Go to the hospital emergency room and tell them that you’re suicidal and that you plan on killing yourself. Tell them that you need someone to talk to and there’s a wait, and that you can’t wait anymore. And that it is unbearable. And trust me, you’ll see a doctor right away and they’ll offer you all kinds of services. I went to the emergency last Tuesday and there was a wait of about 10 hours and when I saw the nurse, I told her I had all my pills on me and ready to kill myself and I saw a doctor about 10 minutes later. And they gave me ressources and follow up appointments.
